Hugh Grant takes on a sinister new role, bringing his distinctive charm to the disturbingly complex Mr. Reed. The character, in a departure from Grant’s usual roles, is a charming intellectual armed with theories on religion, philosophy, and the nature of life and death. Reflecting on the film, Grant shared, “I found The Heretic courageous, not just because it questions a lot of things that many people hold sacred, but for the fact that it takes place in a house during a long night. It is set in the U.S. and features a lot of things – hardly common practice for a horror film.”
Shedding some light on the film’s main themes, producer Stacey Sher revealed, “Heretic is about faith, self-determination, faith, caution, friendship, curiosity and our innate desire as human beings to solve the great mysteries of our existence. Is.” Elaborating further on the ideal casting of Hugh Grant as the lion Mr. Reed, he said, “What makes Hugh so perfect for the role of Reed is that it’s so different from anything we’ve seen him do before Yes, yet he is using all the acquaintances. Taking the techniques we love at Hugh Grant and turning them on their head.”
